Meet Mike and Maybie

Michael Morlino is an innovative educator dedicated to supporting students through a comprehensive, eclectic approach. As the developer of the Therapeutic Support Program (TSP) in his district, Mike incorporates Morning and Wrap-up meetings, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), group and individual therapy sessions, conflict resolution, student and parent coaching, transition plans, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to accommodate each student’s individual needs.

To further enhance his expertise, Mike has continued his education with training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), Skills Intervention Program (SKIP), Heartmath Inner Balance Coherence Plus, Integrative Mental Health Social Emotional Learning (IMSEL), and Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT).

A distinguishing aspect of his program is the inclusion of Maybie, a trained facility dog from Canine Companions in Long Island, New York. Maybie assists in the classroom, performing over 40 commands and providing emotional support, especially for students experiencing emotional dysregulation. Through tasks like opening doors, picking up items, and offering "deep pressure" support, Maybie has become a pivotal part of the school environment, drawing attention from school districts nationwide.

The goal of Morlino Therapeutic Learning Consulting is to expand the success of the Therapeutic Support Program to other districts across the country, sharing Mike's vision for a therapeutic approach that is individualized and supportive of both students and staff. He is certified in special education, history, biology, and administration, and is pursuing an LCSW with plans to obtain a DSW or Ph.D. in Social Work.
